I am so shocked by the sad news of Dave's passing. He and I were in graduate school together working in the "fly lab". He was a great guy and had the best attitude. My condolences to his family.

David was one of those rare individuals who you could always count on to get things done. He was a tireless worker for science and conservation and a huge supporter of Thailand and Thailand's students. His death at such a young age is a huge loss. We will greatly miss our friend and scholar.

I cannot imagine how and why a brilliant and wonderful man could be taken away from all of us lost souls who needed his guidance and advice. Without him I wouldn't be here in the U.S. pursuing my PhD in a field I have no experience in. It was an honor to be accepted into his lab and I will always cherish my interactions with him. I hope he looks over my research and helps me become a decent scientist even in his absence. I am forever grateful for his support and direction. May he rest in peace. Miss you Dr.Reed.

I still could not believe in the passing of David. He almost come to Thailand next month and everyone was looking forward to meet him. He is one of the smart and helpful scientists I ever met. His support and knowledge sharing for students and young wildlife researchers in Thailand is forgettable. I would like to thank David for everything you have done for me and my family. You will be with us ...always..

For several years while David was at UM we had a regular weekly lunch date. We talked about all things - science, politics, religion, family. It was something I looked forward to very much, because David was always so completely honest, direct, and smart in his thoughts. He was an honorable person, who I knew I could count on for straight talk, and I really respected him for that. I also remember how incredibly joyful he was when Vanessa was born, and as he watched her grow. He was a superb scientist, an excellent teacher, a real friend.

I was very sad to learn of David's passing. He and I served on many UM graduate student dissertation and thesis Committees together, and he always asked thoughtful and challenging questions. My favorite memories of David are of Vanessa and David coming into Shoemaker Hall late in the afternoons, and listening to her many questions for her Dad. My deepest sympathy is extended to all of David's family. Marge Holland

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of David's passing. David was a close colleague of mine at Ole Miss. He was a highly intelligent and productive scientist, a committed conservationist, and a dynamic and captivating lecturer in the classroom. He was also a good friend with a great sense of humor. I hated to see him leave us at Ole Miss for a better opportunity at Louisville. I will miss our long and entertaining conversations. My deepest sympathies are with his family.
