Hassie Vandergriff Obituary

VANDERGRIFF, HASSIE BERNICE SUMMERS - Age 98, of Maynardville, passed away Friday May 12, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was the oldest living member of Bethany Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Allie Vandergriff; daughter, Wanda Yardley and son, Kenneth Vandergriff. Survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Cindy Vandergriff, Bobby and Doris Vandergriff; daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Winfred Mitchell, Ann and Pete McCoy, Ruby and Larry Gray; daughter-in-law, Wanda Vandergriff; son in law, Sam Yardley; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; brothers, Paul and Robert Summers; sisters, Mildred Welch and Betty Breeding. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Sundbridge Healthcare for their care. Funeral service 8 pm Sunday Mynatt's Halls Chapel. Rev. Jim Woods officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 am Monday at Bethany cemetery for an interment service at 11 am. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Sunday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel.

Sorry that we were not able to pay our respects in person.

Hassie was mom's favorite cousin,now they are together. May god bless you in your loss.

Hassie was my Mom's favorite cousin and I know they used to talk regularly when Mom lived in Knoxville. She was an inspiration to younger people by the way she continued with the activities she enjoyed as long as she was physically able. I know she will be missed by everyone who knew her.
