James Whedbee

Knoxville, TN

James (Lloyd) Whedbee, age 82, of Knoxville, passed away July 14, 2015 as a result of kidney disease. He was a well known Insurance Agent in Knoxville for 55 years. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army during the German Occupation where he was a court recorder for the Nuremburg Trials. Upon his return to Knoxville, he was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He later went to work for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. He became an Independent Insurance Agent in 1972. His son, Robert and grandson, Justin are keeping the tradition continuing. Lloyd was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He loved to travel to his home in Destin, FL with his grandchildren and their Boston Terrier, "Sugarfoot" in his conversion van. They spent many happy hours fishing and beach combing. He was a longtime member of the Heartland Chapter of the Hudson Car Club. He was an avid antique auto buff. Lloyd proudly showed his 1949 Anniversary Model Hudson Commodore Convertible at car shows and at a yearly meeting in Pigeon Forge. Lloyd was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.

Preceded in death by parents, R. W. and Beatrice Farmer Whedbee; brother, R. W. Whedbee, Jr.; sisters, Eula Faye and Doris Jean Whedbee. Survivors: wife of 62 years, Joyce Groseclose Whedbee; sons, James Michael and John Robert Whedbee; grandson, Justin Robert Whedbee (Jodi); granddaughter, Brittany Whedbee; great-grandson, Logan Whedbee; brother-in-law, Bill Groseclose; sisters-in-law, Martha Groseclose Walker and Betty Whedbee; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 4450 Walker Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37917 or the American Heart Association, 4708 Papermill Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919.

A memorial service to celebrate Lloyd's life will be held 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Stevens Chapel with Rev. Darris Doyal officiating. Family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the mortuary. The family wishes to thank all personnel who took care of Lloyd on his medical journey. He is at peace at last. I worked with Lloyd at Liberty Mutual in late 60's. He was always professional, pleasant, and a joy to be around. He was a good guy who I am glad to have known. Sorry for your loss.
