Jerry Edwards Obituary

EDWARDS, JERRY WESTLEY - 85, of Powell, went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2007. He was born September 24, 1921 in Quicksand, KY, the son of Jerry and Sarah Davidison Edwards. At the age of 16, Mr. Edwards joined the CCC Camp in Kentucky and at the age of 17 enlisted in the US Army. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, serving under General George Patton and participated in three major battles during his service to our country. Mr. Edwards was a member of Faith Promise Church and held membership in the Elks Club, Eagles, VFW and the Moose Club. While living in Florida he was very active with the Moose Club serving in several capacities, including officer. He and his wife also spent countless hours as volunteers in Florida hospitals, nursing homes and the VA Hospital. In his younger years, Mr. Edwards was an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Gladys Edwards, May 31, 1998; sisters, Geraldene Edwards, Hazel Parrett and Halla B. Brown. He is survived by: sister, Juneata Byrd of Middletown, OH; nieces, Wanda Craven and husband Pete of Oak Ridge, Joyce Jannen and husband Larry of Claxton, Annabella Lane of Deltona, FL, Kathy Moore and husband Steve of Oak Ridge, Angela Collins and husband Randy of Oak Ridge and Janice Harland of Middletown, OH; nephews, Phillip Parrett and wife Bonnye of Oak Ridge and Jerry Parrett and wife Frances of Powell. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 1pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Chaplain Blake Greer officiating and full military honors provided by the Veterans United Honor Guard of Knoxville. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Veterans United Honor Guard, c/o Major Blake Greer, 5410 Bellwood Lane, Knoxville, TN 37918.
