June Scanlon Obituary

June Scanlon

Knoxville - June Joyce Scanlon - age 82 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 9, 2021, after a brief illness. June was born January 28, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating Turtle Creek High School, she worked as a secretary at E. L. Weigand Co. in Pittsburgh, PA, where she met Robert F. Scanlon, who she married in 1963. Her husband's engineering career led them to Knoxville, TN in 1964. June was an active member of Saint John Neumann Catholic Church. She was known for her generous heart and baking skills. She enjoyed giving baked goods to her many friends and loved ones. Her passion for walking was an opportunity to meet her neighbors. She enjoyed gardening and watching birds in her backyard. June loved animals her entire life. Every stray cat knew to go to her house. June never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone she crossed paths with. June was a nanny for several families from 1990-2000 and those friendships continued after the children were grown. June had a special talent for staying in touch with friends and family through visits, phone calls, and cards. She will be greatly missed. June is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Robert F. Scanlon; parents Ellis R. and Marie J. Hall, brother Ralph Hall, sister Melva Skena, and brother Kenneth Hall. She is survived by daughter Maureen Bosch (Donald); daughter Dr. Kathleen Scanlon; son Jeffrey Scanlon (Amy); grandchildren Matthew, Lauren, Adam, Hannah and Natalie; sister Norma Jean Erkel (Norm); brother Ellis (Duke) Hall; and many nieces and nephews. June's family is very appreciative for the nurses and staff at NHC Farragut and Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center. A Celebration of June's Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in honor of June and her love of animals be made to Humane Society of Tennessee Valley https://humanesocietytennessee.networkforgood.com/projects/15159-donate or Zoo Knoxville https://www.zooknoxville.org/donate/tribute-giving/. June was a wonderful neighbor to our mom and dad. She always stopped by to say hello and bring homemade bread. We would see her out walking when we were at the condo. If all neighbors were more like June, this world would be a better place. We will keep all of her family in our prayers.

June was a very special lady and she will be greatly missed. She was very wonderful to me personally and I enjoyed her stories, her baked goods and her lovely cards. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
