Laura O'Callaghan

Laura Payne O'Callaghan, age 93, of Knoxville, Tennessee died October 8, 2016 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Mrs. O'Callaghan was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. She was also a member of Girl's Cotillion, Junior League of Knoxville, and the Nine O'clock Cotillion. She served a docent at the Knoxville Museum of Art, served as the chairman of the Mount Rest Board, a member of the Board of Senior Citizen Home Assistance, and Fort Sanders Regional Auxiliary.

Preceded in death by husband, Homer M. O'Callaghan, Sr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt N. Payne, Sr.; brother, Hoyt N. Payne, Jr.; and grandson, Charles Jackson Cason, IV. She is survived by sons, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis N. O'Callaghan, Sr. (Janis Seaton), Mr. H. Mitchell O'Callaghan, Jr. and Jennie Baker; and daughters, Dr. and Mrs. Samuel R. Sheldon (Ellen O'Callaghan), and Mrs. Sabina Cason (Sabina O'Callaghan); grandchildren include Micheall Jeffers, Dennis N. O'Callaghan, Jr., (Tyge), Laurie Trotter, Corey Cason, Amanda Roberts, S. Ryan Sheldon, and nine (9) great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2016, Second Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tim Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The interment is private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 2829 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919, or to a charity of choice.

Betsy and I are so sorry to learn of Mrs. O'Callaghan's passing. What a wonderful lady she was and what a legacy she has left. May God's blessings be with all of you throughout the days ahead.

So sorry for your loss, but how wonderful that she was able to be a part of your lives for so long! She was such a gracious lady with a quick smile for everyone. I often think of her with great fondness.
