Ronnie Roberts Obituary

Ronnie Roberts

Philadelphia - Ronnie Roberts, age 63 of Philadelphia, passed away Monday, January 11, 2021, at the Parkwest Medical Center with his family by his side. Ronnie was a member of First Baptist Church, Philadelphia.

It is very difficult to find the words to aptly describe the life of "Coach" Ronnie Roberts. He lived a life that revolved around serving others. Most people know Ronnie was a teacher to countless students at Philadelphia Elementary School and Loudon High School. He coached middle school basketball for 18 years, high school basketball for 10 years, and high school football for 24 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Philadelphia for many years. People will always remember his infectious smile and the passion he exuded in everything he did. To many, he was a teacher, coach, or athletic director. However, those words only scratch the surface. Ronnie was the best friend you could ask for, and a mentor to so many. He was a loving husband, father, "Pop", brother, son, and uncle. Ronnie Roberts will be remembered as a leader, hero, and legend. "Once a Redskin, Always a Redskin".

Ronnie is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Judy Patterson. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Kim (Patterson) Roberts; son and daughter-in-law, Tyler and Vanessa Roberts; daughters and son-in-law, Lindsey and Jim Knesek, and Laura Roberts; grandchildren, Natalie, Mackinlee and Jack Roberts; parents, Jim and Faye Roberts; sister, Kathy McQueen; father-in-law, Willis Patterson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Mike Herron; nephews, Josh, Jimmy and Jefferson McQueen, and Jordan Keith; nieces, Kristin McQueen and Lyrika Herron; and a host of special friends.

A memorial service to honor and remember Ronnie will be held 11 AM Saturday, January 16th in the Loudon High School Gymnasium with Rev. Brian Courtney officiating. Contributions in memory of Ronnie may be made to LHS Athletics, 1039 Mulberry Street, Loudon, TN 3774 or to the Susan G. Koman Foundation, 13770 Noel Road, Suite 801889, Dallas, TX 75380 or to www.koman.org. Friends may visit the funeral home 1-7 PM Thursday, January 14th to view and sign the register book. Masks must be worn for those in attendance for the service at the high school.

My heart has an emptiness for I have lost a classmate, teammate, and a very dear friend. Growing up in church, school, and sports I have many fond memories with Ronnie. Even though I haven't seen Ronnie that much since highschool. There is a kindred spirit. Growing up together playing pickup baseball in the sloping open field that was once at Rosedale and Ward. Singing together in God's Squad at the First Baptist Church or shooting basketball behind the annex there. Of course Jack Hodges Sunday School Class. Great times, Great memories, Great Friend is what Ronnie will always be to me. I remember standing in the huddle beside Ronnie watching the seconds tick down. At that time a moment of perfection became reality. There have been those in our lives there in Loudon that were great mentors. Whether in Church, family , or school they all had a great impact on us. Ronnie took those lessons and values and did the same in his life and others. I know when Ronnie went home on the 11th God was there to greet him. An with a smile he said, You did good Ronnie, real good. Come on in.

Ronnie was a church friend growing up in London. He will be missed by us all. He had a great laughter that would light up a room. May God comfort his family at this time. He made a difference and touched many students and athletes.
