THOMAS Z. JONES

JONES, THOMAS Z. - age 78, of Lenoir City, Tennessee, passed away in Knoxville, Tennessee, on August 15th. He was a graduate of Franklin High School in Franklin, North Carolina, and Western Carolina University. He served twenty one years with the U.S. Navy "Seabees", retiring as a chief equipment operator. He was very proud of his service to his country and was based in many areas of the world including Alaska, the Philippines, Italy, the Antarctic and Vietnam. His many military awards included the Naval Achievement Medal, Antarctic Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Expert Rifle and Pistol ribbons. Following his military retirement, he worked for the Catepillar Company in Peoria, Illinois. He was married for forty three years to Rosa del Ricco of Casserta, Italy, who predeceased him in 2003. He is survived by his son, Thomas Angelo Jones of Princeton, Illinois; and brothers, Larry of Lenoir City and Dr. R. M. Jones of Franklin, North Carolina.
