William Parrott Obituary

PARROTT, MR. WILLIAM FLOYD - age 89, passed away at his home in Knoxville on Sunday, February 24. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, and a godly role model. He was a lifelong resident of LaFollette, TN where he lived for more than 85 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church LaFollette for more than 80 years where he served faith fully as a deacon, chairman of the deacons, and Sunday School teacher. Floyd was the Postmaster in LaFollette from 1958 until his retirement at the end of 1983. He and his father and brother were in the theater and drive-in movie business from 1936 until the mid 70s. Floyd was a combat veteran of WWII where he served on the front lines in Europe with Company A, 399th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division. He was a community leader and loved his time working with a men's lay group out of NC. Their ministry was to lead in local church lay revivals throughout the eastern US. Floyd was preceded in death by his father, Harrison Parrott, Sr., his mother, Mary Elizabeth Goins Parrott, his brother, Harrison Parrott, Jr., and his sister, Euretha (Reet) Lewis. His survivors include the love of his life, his wife of nearly 70 years, Mary Kathryne Hollingsworth Parrott; and his children: daughter, Carole Wynn Hodge and husband, R.J. of Maryville, TN; daughter, Brenda Nichols and husband, Mickey of Jacksonville, FL; son, Bill Parrott and wife, Sandra of Knoxville; daughter, Debbie Parrott of Jonesborough, TN, and daughter, Donna Rankin of Chattanooga; his grandchildren are, Greg Miller of Kingsport, TN, Deanna Miller of Atlanta, Sebrina Williams of Atlanta, Darren Nichols of Jacksonville, FL, Lisa Chappell of Quinlan, TX, Dawn Wagner of Johnson City, Ashley Parrott of Knoxville, Billy Parrott of Knoxville, and April Barrett of Chattanooga; additionally there are 16 great grandchildren. The service will be at First Baptist, LaFollette, on Tuesday, February 26. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM and the service will be from 2:00-2:30. Graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery in LaFollette will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. Mary's Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938 or your favorite children's home. Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mr. William Floyd Parrott.
