WARSAW - Darlene Mary Schimmoller was born on July 21, 1935, in Fulda, Ohio, to Rosa (Gerst) and Clyde Noll. At a very young age, the family moved from Fort Jennings, Ohio, to Glandorf, Ohio, where she spent her youth. She graduated from high school and went on to college to earn a teaching degree.
On Aug. 11, 1956, she married John J. Schimmoller, and they started a family. Darlene, John, and family lived in Defiance, Ohio, for many years with a short time in Cleveland, Ohio, when John became ill.
The family always enjoyed annual vacations at the lake. They spent summers at Lake Gage, near Angola, Indiana, beginning in 1975. Later, in 2001, Darlene moved permanently to Lake Gage. This was truly her "happy place".
Darlene will be remembered for her strong faith, vitality, independence, and kindness. She cared deeply about her family, immediate and extended, as well as the many friendships she made and maintained over the years. She loved the lake and watching family and friends enjoy the same. Some of her favorite pastimes over the years included collecting antiques, needle work, volunteering at the church rummage sale and at the hospital, and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John J. in 1990; her son, John M. in 2019; and two brothers, Don and Dale.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamra (Greg Ummel); daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen (John Schimmoller); five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
