Gilbert Fox Obituary

AUBURN — Gilbert J. "the friendly fox" Fox, 90, of Auburn died Tuesday May 3, 2016, at DeKalb Health in Auburn.
Gil was born March 24, 1926, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His primary and secondary education was obtained in Milwaukee at St. Vincent's, St. Amelien, Pio Nono High School and St. Francis Prep School.
Gil was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science in naval science and in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. He later received a Bachelor of Arts in business from Indiana University in 1972.
Gil was a veteran of the U.S. Navy V-5, V-12 and ROTC programs attaining the ranks of lieutenant while serving in the Pacific Theatre aboard the Destroyer TE Chandler DD7171.
Gil had worked at General Electric for eight years and Cooper Industrial Products in Auburn for 23 years, retiring in 1987 as vice president and controller.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Auburn, and the Knights of Columbus.
Gil loved traveling, especially to Ireland. He loved ND football and basketball. He loved spending time with all of his family. He also enjoyed play golf and bridge.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Annette Fox of Auburn, a daughter and son-in-law, Veronica and Jerome Disque of Auburn, a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kim Fox of Brownsburg, Indiana, a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeff Grogg of Auburn, a son, Ray Fox of Auburn, a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Michelle Fox of Auburn, and a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Anna Fox of Keene, New Hampshire; his grandchildren, Allison Fox, Madison Fox, Emily (Joe) Hayes, Damian (Megan) Disque, Nathan (Emily) Fox, Elizabeth Fox, Nicholas Fox, Jeremy (Angela) Grogg, Christina (David) Coats, Landon Grogg, Alicia (John) Carter, Bobby Fox,Riley Fox, Cooper Fox, Xavier Fox and LeAnne Fox; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Marian Alice Fox, in 1984.
Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pinnington-McComb Funeral & Cremation Services, 502 N. Main St., Auburn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held today 2 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 500 E. Seventh St., Auburn. The Rev. Derrick Sneyd will be officiating. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Auburn.

Dear Fox Family,
I found out only yesterday of the passing of this great friend.
He was one in a million. We always had fantastic times together.
Whether we were at ND Football, Basketball Games, golfing, having dinner at the St. James Tavern. He was a truly beloved friend.

It is with great sadness that we try to express to Gilbert's family, the joy that he has brought to our family in just a few short months. When Tom picked your Dad up to play Bridge on Tuesdays and Thursdays they shared stories of family; how he loved your Mother, all of you and Grands & GG's, as they passed ponds and lakes where he took you all fishing! His love for the Church by frequent participation in the Sacraments. And of course stories about Ireland! Just a couple of weeks ago, he joined our family for a special dinner in FtW, to welcome Anne's sweet (89 yr old) Aunt here from Philadelphia, who also loved Ireland. We were looking forward to having them share their stories with us - but God has taken them both to Heaven in just these few short days.

For Gil's Family,
Gill and I were partners at the Angola Bridge Club for a while and we were both intent on winning. Gil was always generous with his lessons for me so I could play better. I will miss him, a kind, gentle, funny, and smart person.
