Larry Nicklin
LEO — Larry G. Nicklin, 88, of Leo died Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Coventry Meadows LLC, Fort Wayne, of complications due to pneumonia.
A noted car historian, collector and designer, Mr. Nicklin was the founder of the Ferrari Club of America, a longtime member of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum in Auburn and a charter member of the National Auto and Truck Museum in Auburn. He was a figure in car culture locally and sought nationally for his unique expertise on classic cars and his artistic renderings of futuristic classics. An enigmatic and private man, his contributions to the field of automotive design as well as its history will serve as his legacy.
Mr. Nicklin was an industrial and automotive designer, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of ArtLink.
He was born Aug. 13, 1926, to Mildred and Clarence Nicklin.
He was married Aug. 28, 1952, in Carmel, California, to Carmen J. Nicklin. She survives him.
Also surviving are his children, Craig (Becky) Nicklin and John (Lucyna) Nicklin of Fort Wayne; Tom (Amy) Nicklin of Indianapolis; and Jennie NIcklin of Leo; eight grandchilden and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Nicklin.
A memorial gathering and time for sharing and remembrance will take place Tuesday, January 20, 2015, from 6-9 p.m. at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, 1600 Wayne St., Auburn, IN 46706
Burial will be in Forest Lawn at Glendale, California.
Gifts in remembrance may be made to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum and the National Auto and Truck Museum.

Dear Carmen and the entire Nicklin Family,

The entire Ferrari Club of America is saddened to hear that Larry, one of the Club's 8 founders had passed. Larry lives on through the club he founded and at 5,800 members is by far the largest Ferrari club in the world. We will miss Larry and the stories that he and the other founder's told during the 2005 Ferrari Club Annual Meet in Indianapolis and the club's 50th Anniversary celebration held in 2013. And if not for Larry and John Delamater, I do not believe we would have even had the 2005 Annual Meet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where we are still the only car club to host an annual meet at Indy and run Ferraris at speed.
I met and talked with Larry on several occasions after joining the Ferrari Club in 1987 and have been a member ever since. I considered Larry a friend who I could ask for advice and will miss him greatly as will the entire membership. God Speed Larry.
