Roberta Frederick Obituary

KENDALLVILLE - Roberta Mae (Gehring) Frederick, 90, formerly of Kendallville, Indiana, died on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025.

Roberta was born Dec. 16, 1934, in Kendallville, Indiana, daughter of the late Robert and Greta (Lehner) Gehring.

She married Jack W. Frederick on Aug. 8, 1954. Jack preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 2024.

She graduated from Kendallville High School and then worked as a nurse's aide at McCray Memorial Hospital in the maternity ward. Before Roberta married, she was a member of Mitchell Street United Methodist Church and Job's Daughters. After she and Jack married, they joined First Christian Church where she was a participant in one of the women's circles.

She was also involved in Western Wheels Square Dancers, Fun 'N' Fancy Extension Homemaker's Club, Noble County Republicans and Noble County Republican Women. In 2020, she and Jack were presented the Distinguished Service Award for Republican Excellence. Roberta also served as a Girl Scout Leader for her daughters' troop. While her children were in school, she volunteered with the PTA, room mother, band parent and chaperone for field trips and other activities. In recent years, she volunteered at the Bargain Shop in downtown Kendallville.

Roberta loved the water and swimming. She also danced a "mean" jittergbug and was a great roller-skater. First and foremost was her love for Jesus Christ, her Savior, and her family. She was the glue that held everyone together.

Survivors include her children, Kim (Kirk) Sabrosky, of Fort Wayne, Paula Sprunger, of Kendallville and Art (Regina) Frederick, of Markle; grandchildren, Jackie (Doug) McCarty, of Noblesville, Rachel Weigand, of Fort Wayne, Tyler Sprunger, of Oklahoma, Jason Frederick, of Fort Wayne, Sarah Frederick, of Wawaka, Kyle (Ali) Thomas, of Harlan, Michael (Nikki) Thomas, of Fort Wayne and Austin Thomas, Noblesville; great-grandchildren, Cora, Mason, Madison, Laine, Tucker, Xander, Aria, Kylar and one on the way; her sister, Sharon Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Gehring; and great-granddaughter, Grace Linnea Sprunger.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon, at First Christian Church, 110 W. Waits Road, Kendallville.

Funeral services will be held following visitation at noon, at the church.

Pastor David Gruber and Pastor Michael DeSanto will officiate the funeral service.

Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Kendallville.

Roberta was a good friend and coworker. She and I shared many memories from working together on the evening shift in OB. On a few "slow" nights we got pretty creative!

Such a sweet, sweet lady. I loved greeting her and talking with her. She was very complimentary and always had a smile, even when going through hard times. I know you will miss her.
