COLUMBIA CITY - Shelly Mae (Decker) Vance, passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family after an 11-year battle with cancer.
Born on Sept. 17, 1959, in Edgerton, Wisconsin, to Maureen (Bolden) Jordan and James Decker. She attended Edgerton Schools.
On Nov. 12, 2013, she married Mark Vance in Albion, Indiana.
Shelly's greatest joy in life was her kids and grandkids. She spent every moment she could bragging about them or showing friends pictures of them. She was a passionate sports fan and was on the sideline cheering for every sporting event she could attend. When she wasn't watching her sons or grandkids on the field, she was cheering on the Green Bay Packers or the Wisconsin Badgers.
Shelly enjoyed being on the back of her husband, Mark's motorcycle and living on the lake. She had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to plants, flowers and anything else that she could grow with love. She loved springtime and always looked forward to the first hummingbird sighting of the season. If it was cold outside and she couldn't garden, she was inside cuddling her cats. Other hobbies included playing cards with friends, collecting antiques and spending as much time as she could with friends and family back in her beloved home state of Wisconsin.
Shelly was a friend to everyone and stranger to no one. She loved passionately and immediately made you feel welcomed and comfortable. She will be terribly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Vance; sons, Kyle (Latashua) Rucks and Jordan (Alyssa) Rucks; stepchildren, Lee (Macie) Vance and Megan (Ryan) Kundert; grandchildren, Xavier and Brexlee Rucks, Justice and Journey Sparks, Phoenix and Olin Vance; mother, Maureen Jordan; stepfather, Jerry Jordan; sister, Sherri Paulson; and brother, Michael Decker.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Decker; maternal grandparents, Neil and Dorothy Bolden; and paternal grandparents, Stewart and Mary Decker.
Celebration of Life services will be held in Indiana, on May 17, 2025, with time and location to be determined and will be announced at a later date.
A Celebration of Life will also be held in Wisconsin, from 5-8 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at Henry Street Social, 110 N. Henry St., Edgerton, WI 53534. To honor Shelly's wishes, please wear your favorite sports team attire.
Memorials may be made to her family for all things related to sports for her children and grandchildren.
