Edward D. Smith

Edward (Eddie) D. Smith, 78, Faucett, Missouri; passed away peacefully Friday, March 28, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Eddie was born on March 3, 1947 in St. Joseph, Missouri to the late James and June (Rogers) Smith. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School. Mr. Smith worked as a production manager for the St. Joseph News-Press for forty-eight years, retiring in 2012. Eddie was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing golf and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. Eddie married Caroline Slaybaugh on October 5, 1994. She preceded him in death. In addition to his wife, Caroline, and parents, Eddie was also preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Ryder and previous wife, Middy (Ball) Refshauge. Eddie is survived by his five children, Trish (Larry) Kinion, Eddie Smith, Amy (Jack) West, Amanda (John) Cook and Cory (Tiffany) Smith; grandchidlren, Chelsi (Darin) Dudley, Cheyanne Magers, Chelsey Kinion, Casey Kinion, Josh Smith, Stephanie Matukewicz, Bradley Smith, Caitlynn Smith, Anthony (Nicole) Perkins, Marissa (Kylie) Carey, Zayne Cook, Logan Cook, Gavin Cook, Cayden Smith, Alex Smith, Daniel Slaybaugh, Jaelyn Slaybaugh and twenty-two great-grandchildren; bonus children, Vonda (Mark) Edwards, Scott (Ann) Slaybaugh, Lisa Slaybaugh; sister, Connie (David) Browning and several nieces and nephews, former wife, Linda (Frye) Welch and dear friend, Carol Martinez. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with Funeral Service to follow beginning at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 3 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith-Sidenfaden Chapel with cremation to follow. A Private Family Inurnment will be held at Faucett Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter.
