Douglas Bowman

Memorial services for Douglas Bowman age 68 of West Point, NE will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE with Rev. John Gierke officiating. Entombment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the Beed Transportation Building (745 S. Railroad St. West Point, NE). Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Doug passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA surrounded by his family. Douglas Duane Bowman was born in Renton, WA to Merlin and Ruth (Stokes) Bowman. He attended West Point Public School graduating from West Point High School in 1975. Doug earned his Associates Degree from Northeast Community College in 1977 and a Bachelors Degree from Wayne State College in 1983. Doug drove truck with his father prior to operating Doc's Drive-In in West Point. On April 17, 1993, he was united in marriage to Kathy Esch in Beatrice, NE. The couple lived in Walthill until 2002. After moving to Pender, they operated Bowman's 3B Bakery until 2007. They moved to West Point in 2007. In 1986, Bowman's Funnel Cake was started and for 39 years sold funnel cakes and other deep-fried treats at county fairs and other community events. Doug retired at the conclusion of this years Cuming County Fair. Over the years Doug also was a substitute teacher. Doug was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West Point. He loved spending time with family, spending time on his computer, going to area casinos, and most recently got into wood engraving. Doug and Kathy spent 20 years traveling to Las Vegas, meeting another vendor to provide them with their funnel cake mix. Survivors include- Wife-Kathy Bowman of West Point Daughter-Becky Bowman of West Point Daughter-Beth and Devon Brahm of Swanton, NE and daughters-Charlotte and Susanna Son-Willam and Madison Bowman of Wayne, NE Mother-Ruth Bowman of West Point, NE Sister-Darla Amlong of West Point, NE Brother-Daniel Bowman of West Point, NE Doug was preceded in death by his father-Merlin Bowman, parents-in-law-Eleanor and Leonard Esch, grandparents-Glen and Mildred (Beaudette) Bowman and Ralph and Elsie (Frazey) Stokes.
