Lauren Keeper Obituary

Lauren Keeper
04/19/1954 - 07/28/2025
Lauren Erna Keeper died Monday, July 28, 2025, in Houston, Texas, with her friends Charlene Washington and Cheryl Fasullo by her side.
Lauren was born in Houston on April 19, 1954, the younger child of Samuel Dobry Keeper and Cecile (Cele) Sass Keeper. She grew up in Bellaire, Texas, graduated from Westbury High School as a National Merit Scholar, and earned a BA in Russian at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. She worked alongside her father in public relations, and in a variety of professions, including a stint as a television news producer, and one as a sales associate at Audio Video Plus. She was one of the first Uber drivers in Houston.
Lauren had a wide variety of interests. From childhood until her death, she loved horses. She was an enthusiastic student of Native American culture, a regular participant in Renaissance Faires, an accomplished author, visual artist, and guitarist. She loved several television series, particularly "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.", especially the character Illya Kuryakin and the actor who portrayed him, David McCallum.
Like her parents, Lauren was a lifelong Democrat, a regular supporter of social justice causes, and a patron of Houston theatre.
Lauren was a kind and generous soul. She made many lasting friends throughout her life. She and Cheryl Fasullo became friends in the eighth grade at Pershing Junior High and remained good friends until the moment Lauren died.
When Lauren moved to Brookdale several years ago, she found more friends there. At Brookdale, she organized a weekly movie musical night and coloring book sessions, and participated in art classes and a drum circle among other activities. She loved to travel, was a lifelong learner and devoted reader, and was a member of a book club for many years.
Lauren is survived by twelve cousins, and was predeceased by her parents and her brother Gary Keeper. Lauren's family extends their abundant gratitude to Charlene Washington, who was Lauren's friend and caregiver for many years.
Lauren's remains will be interred at Emanu El Memorial Park in Houston. A memorial service will be held in the near future at Brookdale West University, with attendees requested to wear purple or lavender to honor Lauren's love of the colors. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Lauren's memory to the social justice charity of your choice.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. I knew Lauren from Brookdale. My brother lives there. She always was friendly and came by to chat with me at lunch. I will miss her.
