Duane Tresch Obituary

Duane Tresch, 72, of Floyd, passed away Monday, July 28, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota. A Mass of Christian Burial for Duane Tresch will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at St. Marys Cemetery in Greene, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Duane was born in Jenkins Township near Riceville, Iowa, on September 24, 1952, to Alfred Tresch and Margaret (Zwettler) Tresch. He graduated from Riceville School in 1970. Then he continued his education at Hamilton Business College in Mason City before transferring to Madison Business School in Madison, Wisconsin. After graduating, he returned to Osage and began working at White Farm in Charles City. Following the closure of White Farm, Duane began working for Allied Construction/Greene Limestone in Charles City. He kept working at Allied until those old work accidents' lingering effects on his mobility forced him to swap his superhero cape for some fuzzy slippers and dial back the hours from totally epic to slightly less than legendary because even superheroes need a nap sometimes. Duane met the love of his life, Mary Jo Reams, while attending Hamilton Business College in Mason City. They were married on April 28, 1973, at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. Together they had 2 fantastic children: Kristina (Kristy) and Travis. They made their home in Osage before moving to Floyd in 1978. Duane enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeye sports whether it was football, basketball, or softball. During the winter months when he couldn't be outside, you could often find him doing jigsaw puzzles. Duane also enjoyed doing Sudoku. He also enjoyed watching Skyler, his only grandson, participating in sporting events, band, and Boy Scouts. Duane was a life-long member of the Floyd Lions Club, where he held many leadership positions. He was oftentimes the highest "Fish Fundraiser" salesman. Duane received the Melvin Jones Fellowship award for his dedication, service, and commitment to improving communities around the world. Duane was also known for his caring, sense of humor and his incredibly kind heart. His spirit will live on through those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed by all. Duane is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Jo; daughter, Kristy (Kevin) Wilde and her son, Skyler Buss; son, Travis Tresch; siblings: Therese Pudnez (Dennis Naumann), and Carol (David) Swiggum; half-brothers: Jim (Mary Ellen) Mueller and Bob (Nelda) Mueller; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Tresch. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Duane, please visit our Tree Store.
