Julie Montag Obituary

Julie Montag, 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Rockford, Iowa, on June 27, 2025. Julie courageously battled multiple sclerosis (MS) for over 40 years. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford, Iowa. A gathering of family and friends will start at 12:00 p.m. prior to the start of the service. Julie selflessly donated her body to the University of Iowa Hospital for scientific research. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice. Julie Lynn Montag, the daughter of Larry & Linda (Engstler) Schisel was born May 8, 1957, in Britt, Iowa. She graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1975 and continued her education at Capri Cosmetology. She was united in marriage to Wayne Jansen in November of 1978. To this union was born a daughter, Callie Lynn. In September of 1996 she was united in marriage to David Montag in Clear Lake. Julie greatly enjoyed being a hairstylist, starting her career at The French Room in Mason City. She later went on to have her own salons: Shear Delight in Rockford and Trade Winds Salon in Nora Springs. Because she loved her job, Julie always said she never worked a day in her life. Julie really loved being a grandma and was blessed to have 3 granddaughters that she adored. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling to Germany, Maine, and anywhere warm, including Mexico many times. Julie and Dave had many fun Jeep rides, often stopping at the Viking in Ventura for ice cream. Julie is survived by her daughter, Callie (Dana) Hillman of Marble Rock; grandchildren: Hannah, Harper, & Hera; mother, Linda Schisel of Garner; siblings: Pat (Bill) Doble, Lisa (Tom) Huinker, Sara (Jason) Gayken & Joe (Stacy) Schisel all of Garner; brother-in-law, Jay (Myrna) Montag of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Ann (John) Shurtz of Mason City; along with many nieces and nephews; the Red Solo Cup Gals; and many other friends too numerous to mention. She was preceded in death by her husband, David in 2009; her father, Larry Schisel; and parents-in-law, Alberta and Jerald Montag.
