Mary Pushetonequa Obituary

Mary Martha Pushetonequa, "a sa we ge ka", 78, of Tama, passed away, Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Traditional Wake will be held Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama. A Traditional Graveside Service will be held Friday, August 29, 2025 at 2:00 PM at McIntosh Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama. Mary was born on February 2, 1947, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Pushetonequa Sr. and Gloria Williams. Mary attended Haskell Indian Nations University and received her Certified Administrative Professional certification. She worked as a secretary for Healthy Start. Mary liked to bead Thunderbird medallions, and read murder mysteries. She loved puzzles and going to Powwows to dance and was known as a "BINGO-holic." One of her favorite things in the world was being a koko. Survivors include her children, Sonja (Orrie Jr.) Roberts, Paula (Jason) Roberts, Parnell Roberts, and Glenda (Ty) Roberts; sisters, Ruth Pushetonequa, Janan (Kurt) Mohler, Leona Azure-Whiteman, Tonya Bear, Diana (Robert) Guizar, and Terri (Steve) Scott; brothers, James Pushetonequa, Ron and Gary Alexander, and Keith Davenport; many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren; and great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Frank Pushetonequa Jr., and Doug Pendegayaysh; and sister, Rowena Vega.
