Robert Dean "Bob" "Hefty" Hoeft, the son of Lawrence and Edna (Lubbert) Hoeft, was born August 5, 1932, in Riceville, Iowa. He received his education in country school before entering the Charles City Public Schools, graduating from Charles City High School in 1950. Bob then enlisted into the United States Marines (with his father's permission since he was only 17 years old) and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict for four years. After his honorable discharge, Bob returned to Charles City.
He started working as a bartender until his friend told him about Iowa Public Service (later becoming MidAmerican Energy) hiring. Bob applied right away and began his long career as a lineman and foreman retiring in 1993.
Bob was united in marriage to Merna Obermeier on June 25, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in Charles City and raised their family. He was a member of the V.F.W., Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Senior Center and a lifetime member of the Iowa State Trapshooting Association.
Bob was a dedicated family man who was very involved with his children's extracurricular activities as they grew up. He coached them in sports, umpired at girls' softball games and enjoyed trapshooting. Bob also raced go carts and snow mobiles, went camping and fishing. He loved his family very much, his wife especially, and looked forward to spending quality time with them all.
Living family members include his three children: Debra (Michael) Rahm of Medina, Minnesota, Cynthia Pralle of Charles City and Michael (Rhonda) Hoeft of Charles City; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Merna; great-grandson, Hayden Stowe; sister, Audrey Hoeft; and brother, Duane Hoeft in infancy.
