Barbara Wreath Obituary

It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of Barbara Rose (Byhre) Wreath - affectionately known as Barb, Grammy, and Aunt Barbie - who went home to be with the Lord on August 30, 2025, at the age of 87. Barb's life was a gift to all who knew her. Her way was to make you feel special, welcome, and unconditionally loved. Her generosity, laughter, and kind heart blessed us all. Born July 3, 1938 in Starbuck, Minnesota, Barb spent most of her life in the Portland, Oregon area. She led cheers and graduated from Washington High School, and went on to enjoy a fulfilling career. Yet, she would be quick to say her greatest source of joy and pride were her four children and many grandchildren. Barb loved music and dancing, boating, working puzzles, tending to her tomatoes and flowers, and spending time with those she loved. She was also a devoted sports fan who spent countless hours cheering on her kids in football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, and track. From the bleachers of gyms to field sidelines, she was always there - our loudest supporter and biggest fan. Her love of sports extended beyond her family, as she enjoyed watching all things football, always ready for game day. Her favorite expression was "Uffda!," in homage to her full Norwegian heritage and perfectly reflected her spirited nature. Barb is survived by her children, daughter Kristi (Wreath) Dashel and husband Tom, and son Mark Wreath and wife Gina. She was also the cherished Grammy to 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable happiness. She is reunited in heaven with beloved husband John Wreath (Nov. 2005), cherished sons Pat "PJ" Wreath (May 2020) and Doug Wreath (May 2025), loving parents John and Rosa Byhre, and her five adored older brothers: Ed, Jack, Don, Paul, and Chub Byhre. A Celebration Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 3400 NE 43rd Ave, Portland, OR, followed by a gathering at the church to share stories and memories of a truly remarkable lady. A woman of deep faith and unshakable devotion to Christ, Mom has found eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, where she longed to be. While our hearts ache with her absence, we find comfort in knowing she is home. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."- Psalm 23
