Donald Davenny Obituary

April 15, 1939 - June 19, 2025 In Loving Memory of Donald Meyer Davenny, Jr.April 15, 1939 – June 19, 2025 Donald Meyer Davenny, Jr., a devoted Christian, veteran, craftsman, and beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on April 15, 1939, in Seattle, Washington, Don lived a full life guided by his strong faith, sense of service, and love for his family. He graduated from high school in Sequim, WA, and made his home across Washington State-living in Seattle, Vashon, Sequim, Chehalis, Camano Island, Spokane, and many coastal towns where he could stay close to the water he loved. Don served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve for 40 years, working as an electrician and traveling to places like Cuba, Japan, Hawaii, and Alaska. He retired in 2001 as a Chief Warrant Officer while stationed in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Known for his warmth and camaraderie, Don was affectionately named an honorary "swimmer" by the Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers. He began his electrical career with Seattle City Light in the 1960s and moved to Chehalis in 1976 where he went to work for the Lewis County PUD while raising his family. Don was a gifted craftsman with a passion for stained glass, woodworking, macramé, and precise electrical work. His hands were rarely still, and his creativity showed in every project he tackled. One of his proudest adventures was bicycling and camping his way along the Al-Can Highway. Don had many unique passions-he loved animals of all kinds and never passed up a chance to stop and photograph an electrical substation, much to the amusement of those who traveled with him. In his later years, he developed a special affection for the Soap Box Derby, becoming an enthusiastic supporter and fan of the youth and community it brought together. He was married to Harriett for 30 years until her passing in 1995. Together, they raised two daughters, Marla (Randy) and Lisa (Aaron). He was a proud grandfather to Olivia, Ian, and Evan. He is also remembered by his step-grandchildren, Sarah (Alex) and Tyler (Alicia), and step-great-grandchildren, Oscar, Ola, Poppy, and Harvey. Don was a man of quiet strength-loyal, honest, and grounded in faith. He had a gift for remembering details, whether it was dates, directions, or your nickname (he gave everyone one). He loved a good conversation, shared meals, and was always ready to pray for those he cared about. A true prayer warrior, Don lived a life of purpose, humility, and grace. He is now home with the Lord he loved so deeply, and his legacy will live on in the lives of those he guided and loved so well.
