Douglas Canfield Obituary

August 21, 1977 - February 16, 2025 Douglas Jon Canfield (Doug), beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away at the age 47 of on February 16, 2025. Born in Portland, Oregon, on August 21, 1977, to Glen and Sylvia Canfield (Brandsen), Doug was a man of great character and compassion. Doug had two brothers, Mark Canfield and Dan Canfield, one sister, Barbara Hadley, and three half siblings, Scott Canfield (deceased), Pam Coy and Paula McKeen. Doug was a proud graduate of Montana State University, where he earned his degree in Business Administration. He initially worked as a manager for many years before transitioning into his true calling as an insurance adjuster. Doug found deep fulfillment in helping others during some of the most stressful times in their lives, providing a steady hand and compassionate guidance as they navigated through the process of rebuilding what they had lost. Above all, Doug was a family man. His pride and joy were his children, Jedidiah (Jed) and Emelia (Emma). Doug was not only active and present in every activity but also volunteered countless hours coaching sports teams and helping with Meaghan's committees she joined for the kids. Doug was a tireless advocate for his family, running for school board and always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Doug felt very blessed to witness his son find love and marry Anna Canfield whom he welcomed with open arms to our family. Doug's love for his family was boundless, and he worked relentlessly to provide for and support them. Doug was one of the most loving people in the world, and his character shined through in his marriage to Meaghan Canfield. Married on May 20th 2006, Doug loved her endlessly. Doug supported her through every phase of their life together. These two were parents, best friends, partners, and most of all- soulmates. Doug's love for her could be seen in every action, and he lived to protect and care for her. A true craftsman, Doug's handiwork could be seen in every home he owned. He was a gifted handyman and master woodworker, creating beautiful pieces from wood with incredible skill and care. His retirement dream was to build cutting boards, children's toys, and small furniture-passions that, sadly, he was not able to fully realize. Doug's ability to fix anything was a testament to his resourcefulness and his upbringing, having learned the importance of self-sufficiency and creativity while growing up. Golfing, making sourdough bread, fishing, building puzzles, playing board games with friends and family were some of his favorite things to do. He also lived for company and conversation. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a full belly laugh that he shared with everyone. Doug's incredible wit and perfectly timed sarcasm could lighten any situation. Even during his battle with cancer, Doug's humor never wavered. He made others feel better, even when he was struggling himself. While his family was always first, he treasured his friends and appreciated company more than anyone knew. Doug's passing is a profound loss, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Throughout his life, Doug's love for those around him was unwavering, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He fought with strength and courage, and though he is no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing that Doug is now at peace and will be reunited with those he loved.
