Frederick Wilcox Obituary
Frederick Joel Wilcox, age 98, graduated to glory, passing away peacefully at home in Cheney, WA surrounded by family on February 6th, 2025.
Fred was born on July 11, 1926, in Yamhill, OR to Joel and Dora Wilcox. He was raised on the family farm in Yamhill before answering the call of duty, joining the Navy at age 17 during WWII. After his military service, Fred moved to Eastern Washington to begin his own farming operation in 1947. A lifelong farmer, rancher, and dairyman, to say he loved farming is an understatement. On February 17, 1952, he married Edna Cooper, his wife of nearly 73 years. Fred and Edna raised their family of five children in the Cheney area, instilling in them the value of a day's work and getting one's hands dirty.
A gregarious man, Fred never met a stranger. He generously invested his time and resources into others, taking many under his wing and mentoring them along the way. Adventuresome by nature, he loved traveling, going to Mongolia, China, Romania, Australia, and many other places around the world. Fred kept up with world events and was always well-read. He had a zest for life, enjoying hunting and fishing, and regaling family and friends with his many stories of the adventures he experienced over his long life. Most of all, Fred was a man of deep faith. His relationship with God shaped his character and guided his life.
Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife Edna; his children, Ray (Shannon), Larry, Beth (Dave), Jack (Lisa), and Glen (Kimberly); his twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Dora; sister, Jean Campbell; and grandson, Nick Wilcox.
A private graveside service was held at Medical Lake Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Fred's honor may be made to: Union Gospel Mission of the Inland Northwest, PO Box 4066, Spokane, WA 99220.
