Obituary of Howard Franklin Fauley Howard Franklin Fauley (90) resident of St. Maries, ID died at home on June 23, 2024. Born March 11, 1934, in Kalispell, MT; he was the youngest son of Marie Violet Fauley (Fratzki) and Clyde C. Fauley. He spent his early years in Glacier Park, MT area and attended high school in Libby, MT where he was quite a basketball star. He told the story that years later visiting the folks a cousin said, "Ya all I remember was the Fauley kid running down the court, hair flying to make baskets." Howard always joked that his senior class trip was taking a cruise to Korea (which was on an Army troop carrier ship). Howard was very proud of his military family and serving their country. Father Clyde was in the Army, oldest brother Carlyle was in the Marins – WW2 South Pacific 1 Marines, second brother Clyde was in the Airforce – WW2 B17 Liberator Forward 50's, Howard was in the Army – Korean War 24 Infantry Divisions – Demolitions. Howard is survived by his children Tammy Fauley of Astoria, OR, Chuck Fauley of Coram, MT, Audrey VanderVelde (Husband Arthur) of Shelton, WA, Greg Johnson (wife Tina) of Forks, MT, sister Alice Petterson (Fauley) of Libby, MT, sisters in-law Teresa Fauley (Carlyle) of Lakeside, MT, Rae Marie Fauley (Clyde) of Lakeside, MT, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Carlyle and Clyde, first wife Bobbie Kay, second wife Juday, and his beloved wife Evelyn. On Howard's 90 birthday, someone asked him what was the most enjoyable and memorable time of his 90 years, and his reply was, "I really don't have just one, I enjoyed high school, basketball, the Army, loved most of my jobs (especially the department of lands), plowing snow, fighting forest fires, my life with Eve with all the vacations and everything we did together, playing my guitar and jamming with friends". Howard along with his brother's in-law, Don Lietz and Jack Johnson Oct 1963 were hunting in the South Fork Flathead drainage up Doris Creek (Hungry Horse, MT) Howard shot a huge elk and the antlers were massive, recorded Boone and Crockett Club 6x5 – greatest spread 49 ½" – total score 341.375. Howard was very proud of them, loved telling the story of the hunt. The antlers hung in Resor's aka Joe's Bar for about 20 years on display. Howard had many special friends, neighbors (past and present), he loved visiting people. Always a smile on his face, loved telling stories, great sense of humor, always joking was noted and enjoyed by all. A celebration of life is not planned at this time.
