Larry Lester Alexander

Larry Lester Alexander (81) resident of Harrison, ID passed away on September 27, 2025, at Valley Vista Care Center in St. Maries, ID. He was born to June and Leatha (Winstone) Alexander on July 2, 1944, in Superior, MT. Larry grew up in St. Regis, Montana until his father purchased a potato farm in Mackay, ID. The family ran that farm for a few years before returning to Superior where Larry graduated in 1962 from Superior High School. Following high school, Larry went to Northern Montana College in Havre on a football scholarship for one year. After that, Larry came back to Superior to work in the woods as a logger. He later served in the National Guard. He met the love of his life Candy through mutual friends, and they became friends and pen-pals while she was traveling the Unted States. He wrote to her and invited her to Superior to start dating him and he would buy her a gun for her efforts. After some thought, Candy said yes to the gun and moved to Superior to start life with Larry. They moved to Alaska for the amazing hunting and fishing, and they married in Petersburg, AK on April 18, 1970. Candy wanted to be closer to family, so they returned to Superior. Logging didn't satisfy the financial needs of the growing family, so Larry enrolled at University of Montana where he earned his BA Degree in Education. While looking for teaching jobs, Larry had a great friend Rod Lincoln who was the Superintendent of the St. Maries School District and he offered him a job. The family moved to St. Maries and Larry started his teaching career also serving as the head coach of the boys' basketball team leading them to the state tournament. After a few years with the St. Maries school district, Larry joined their greatest rival and went to work for the Kellogg school district also holding the head coach position of the boys' basketball team, and again he led that team to the state tournament. After 5 years at Kellogg, Larry was hired on for the Post Falls school district where he taught Art and also served as head coach for the boys' basketball team. After an impressive teaching and coaching career, Larry retired in 2008. Larry has always loved Harrison, ID and his children have memories of taking the road trip from Coeur d' Alene to St. Maries, and instead of taking the Rose Lake exit, they always took the Harrison exit winding around Carlin Bay into Harrison, so it was fitting that he and Candy retired to there. An avid outdoorsman, Harrison provided the perfect place for Larry to hunt and fish. Hunting and fishing were the best things in life according to Larry aside from his family. Larry is survived by his children Brandy (Estefany) Alexander of Los Angeles, CA, Brian Alexander of Los Angeles, CA, Brock (Alma) Alexander of Locke, CA, and Brason (Tamara) Alexander of Huntington Beach, CA; siblings Rick (Cindy) Alexander of Post Falls, ID, Gary (Lou) Alexander of Las Vegas, NV, and Tammy (Dan) Demien of St. Regis, MT; 10 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
