Mark Rotchford Obituary

The family of Mark Dennis Rotchford, Sr. of Spokane, WA is deeply saddened to share that he passed away on the morning of May 4, 2025. After 92 years of life well-lived, he spent his final days surrounded by loved ones from near and far. Mark joins the rest of his family and many dear friends heaven-side including his parents, Millie and JG Rotchford, and siblings Jack Rotchford, Jeanne Shank, Benita Rotchford, and Bonnie Ghering. He is survived by his "beautiful bride" of 68 years, Georgina "Genie" Rotchford, their children Heidi Davis, Mark and Tami Rotchford, and Kevin Rotchford, five grandchildren, Courtney, Cody, Jessi, Amber, and Shelby and great-grandchildren, Rowan, Arya, and Micah. Mark was born in Spokane in 1933 where he spent most of his life. He graduated from Gonzaga Prep High School in 1951, studied pre-law at University of Washington from 1951-1954, and earned his law degree from Gonzaga in 1958. It was at a Gonzaga mixer that he met and fell head-over-heels for his future wife, Genie. They were married in 1956. A cabin on Chatcolet and then Coeur d'Alene Lake became a home away from home for Mark and Genie, where they spent summers with their many friends, children, and grandchildren fishing, swimming, and waterskiing. After 52 years of a successful legal career, Mark retired and fulfilled his dream of moving to Lake Coeur d'Alene full time. During this time, he also served as a pro tem Judge. Throughout his retirement, Mark and Genie spent winters enjoying the sunshine and golfing in Sun Lakes, AZ. Mark was known by many names to those who loved him - Den, Dad, Uncle Denny, and, of course, Papa. He had a booming voice, a boisterous laugh, a big heart, and a twinkle in his eye. No one was a stranger to Mark and he was known for his affability and good humor. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. A memorial service for Mark will be held on May 22, 2025 at 11 AM in the Mausoleum Chapel at Pines Cemetery, Spokane Valley, WA followed by a reception at the Mica Event Hall from 1-4 PM.

I was saddened to hear about Mark's passing...he was instrumental in my late husband's life during and immediately after law school when he supervised Tom at his law practice. My sympathy to Genie and the kids. He was a good man and a credit to his profession.
