MARY ELLITHORPE Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mary Colleen Ellithorpe. Born on July 26, 1962, in Pullman, and passed away at her home in Spokane, on August 9, 2025. Mary spent her childhood in Palouse, Pullman, and Colfax, and graduated from Colfax High School in 1980. She made Spokane her home, dedicating much of her life to serving others in various roles. Her compassion was evident in her work as a patient aid, caring for individuals in assisted living facilities across Colfax, Pullman, and Spokane. Her commitment to service continued in Spokane, where she worked as a confectioner at Spokandy-her most favorite role, and then as a waitress and hostess. Her dedication was recognized in interviews with local news stations and a feature on the front page of the Spokesman Review. Her strong work ethic, kindness, and genuine spirit left a lasting impact on all who met her.
A true Leo, Mary's vibrant auburn hair matched her lively personality. She loved making friends and debating ideas, embracing life's pleasures like fishing, reading, and listening to classic vinyl rock-n-roll. Each year, she anticipated the "Sister's Trip" to Silverwood Theme Park, filling those days with laughter, roller coasters, and water park fun. Family and friendship were central in Mary's life, and she served as the family historian, carefully preserving stories and memories that bound generations together. Her caring nature often led her to carry burdens that weren't her own, and those who knew Mary witnessed her loving heart and emotion. She would revel in the successes of others, as well as share tears in support of those who needed a friend. Though she had no children, she delighted in updates about her beloved niece and three nephews, as well as the younger generation-three great-nieces and three great-nephews. Every milestone was a moment of joy for Mary, commemorated with photos and shared stories among friends and neighbors.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Arthur Ellithorpe and Eunice Carolyn Ellithorpe. She is survived by her brothers, David Francis Ellithorpe and Stephen Edwards Ellithorpe; her sister, Anne Loree McRae; and her half-sister, Peggy Philips. As we say goodbye to Mary, we hold her memory close, inspired by the grace and resilience she embodied. In remembrance, the family encourages acts of kindness and connection, following Mary's example by embracing loved ones and cherishing the power of love in all circumstances. We love and miss you, Mary.
