Randall Haglund Obituary

If there was ever a man who could tell a story and deliver a sermon with equal ability, it was Randy Haglund. Born in Spokane, September 14th, 1956, Randy passed away February 10, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of faith.
A graduate of Shadle High School (1974), Randy went on to earn his B.A. in Pastoral Training, Minor in Greek from Moody Bible Institute in 1979, and later deepening his love of scripture with a M.A in Biblical Studies in 2006. His faith wasn't just a profession; it was the foundation of his life. Whether preaching from the pulpit, or over a cup of coffee, Randy had a way of making faith honest, real and full of grace.
Randy was a writer at heart. His literary historical fiction, based on his grandfather's diary, 85 Days, captured his gift for storytelling, weaving truth with the kind of details that made history feel alive, as well as his enduring blog, "Allegedly True Stories." But his best stories weren't written down; they were in the countless conversations he had with family and friends.
In his varied career, Randy was a pizza delivery man, athletic equipment reconditioner, did sales with power tools and custom framing. He believed no job was too small, no task too mundane, and no person unworthy of kindness. He also was a birder and loved his dog, Willie.
But his greatest pride and joy was his family. Randy was a devoted husband to Lisa Haglund for over 40 years, and a loving father to Joshua Haglund, Emma Haglund, Grace Haglund and Rebecca Haglund Webb (Zachary). He is also a cherished brother to Richard Haglund (Judy Trenk) and Rex Haglund. He is preceded in death by his son Caleb Haglund, and his brother Raymond Haglund. His humor, wisdom, and unwavering faith will live on in all who knew him.
Randy had a habit of leaving people better than he found them. He lived fully, loved deeply, and never passed up an opportunity to share a good story, always guided by his faith in Christ. His absence leaves an intense ache, but his life leaves an example- a reminder to work hard, laugh often, and always have a story ready to tell, trusting in God's plan and His calling to love and serve others.
His Celebration of Life will be at First Free Methodist Church, 1725 W Courtland, Spokane, WA on March 9, 2025 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, share a story in his honor-he'd love that. Those who wish may also donate to the National Audubon Society in his memory.

I became friends with Randy who I knew as "Lip" about 1977 through our mutual friend Dan Bryson. I have so much to say about Randy that I may make several entries here. I have 20 or so photos of Randy that I have taken through the years and am sharing a 3 photo sequence I took near Christmas 1978. His friend Dan Bryson, always the prankster, bought Randy a present and told me in advance to get my camera ready when Randy opened it. I managed to catch the genuine hilarious reaction when Randy opened his present and found it to be a Donny and Marie Osmond doll! This highlighted just one great aspect of Randy's character - a great sense of humor. My friendship with Randy was on hold from about late 1978 until perhaps late 2012. Randy found me on Facebook and alerted me to our friend Dan's motorcycle accident in Vancouver WA. From that point on, I made intermittent contact with Randy and our friendship grew.
