William Koontz Obituary

William Vernon Koontz, age 76, passed away peacefully in Spokane, WA, on September 2nd, 2025. Bill, as he was known, was born in Pocatello, ID, on May 28th, 1949, to Robert and Marion Koontz. He left High school in the 11th grade and entered the Navy in 1968, where he spent 4 years serving his country. After leaving the Navy, he went on to become a truck driver, where he worked with a few companies prior to becoming an Owner/ Operator of his own truck. In 2013, after over 40 years of driving truck, he went on to work for a few years with the Cheney School District. After retiring, he took on the full-time role of Papa and cared for multiple grandchildren so his children could work. Bill had great integrity, was always hardworking, and was known for his stubbornness. He was stone wrapped around velvet. He met the love of his life Anita, in 1985, and they were able to spend 40 wonderful years together. His greatest accomplishment in life was his family. He spent many summers fishing, camping, and shooting with his 3 sons at their cabin in Priest River, ID. He took pride in raising his boys to become men, and took his role as their Father seriously. Bill believed in tough-love and respect, though when it came to his grand-daughters he was happy to play whatever they wanted and get bossed around. He held great love and pride in his family. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marion, his step-father Glenn, and his older brother Bob. Bill is survived by his wife, Anita Koontz; his 3 sons (and their wives), Ben (Calli), Mike (Shannon), and Jason; his 6 grandchildren, Tatum, Taleia, Beckum, Aria, Andre, and Avary; his 3 sisters, Nancy, Lorinda, Michelle; and many nieces and nephews. Bill "The Wild Oak", will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
