Yiu Wah Chan

1951 - 2025

Our beloved father, Yiu Wah Chan, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Bellevue, Washington on February 15, 2025 at the age of 93. Yiu Wah was born and raised in Guangdong, Taishan China. He was a loving, hardworking, dedicated husband, father and grandfather. On August 28, 1951, he married Jean Chan in China and they were together for over 73 years. In the mid-1950's he went to Hong Kong without his wife and two daughters to escape communism, and to find work to provide for the family. In 1962, Jean and their youngest daughter reunited with him in Hong Kong. In 1967, the family immigrated to the United States for a better life and freedom, settling in Spokane, Washington. He was an excellent cook and worked many years and long hours at the Cathay Inn restaurant. He was a very quick learner and handy around the house. He learned about construction, plumbing and electrical from a neighbor, using those skills to build a large garage at the first house and finishing the basements in both houses. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and gardening with his wife Jean. Yiu Wah was the oldest of 6 children with three brothers and two sisters. His wife and our beloved mother, Jean passed away two months ago. He is survived by 4 children: Amy Chan (Sheung Chi), Connie Settje, Tina Falkenberg (Bob) and Henry Chan. Their daughter Tammy Tee passed away in 2003. He leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Andrew Chan, Peter Chan, Eileen Chan, Alex Chan, Brian Tee and Lauren Tee. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 4th from 1-4 pm at Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral Service is scheduled for 11 am on March 5th, at Heritage Funeral Home; internment to follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
