Ida Bottom Obituary

Ida Rose Bottom, 91, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013. at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was a resident at Windsor Gardens since January 2001 and a Bardstown resident since 1943. She and her husband, Wathen W. Bottom, owned and operated a watchmaker and jewelry store on North Third Street. A homemaker and mother, she continued managing the jewelry store after his death in 1991 until closing it in 1992. She was the former Ida Rose Sanford, a native of Bohon, Kentucky, a graduate of Cornishville High School and an avid UofL basketball fan. She was also a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ where she had been a faithful member of the choir, Sunday School class, Women's group and had served as a member of the Board.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years; her parents, Charles E. and Reva Wells Sanford; her sister, Mary Helen Scrogham; her brother, Charles E. Sanford, Jr.; her stepbrother, Duane Baxter; and a stepsister, Geraldine Baxter Peyton.
Survivors include a brother, Harold Wells (Ann) Sanford, of Texas; three half brothers, Billy Sanford, of Bohon, Darrell Sanford, of Nicholasville, and Gary Sanford, of Mercer County; a half sister, Carol Sanford Pinkston, of Willisburg; a daughter, Phyllis (Charles) Cole, of Lenexa, Kan.; two sons, Lawrence (Doraleen) Bottom, of Winter Garden, Fla., and Edward Alan (Charlene) Bottom, of Louisville; five grandchildren, Dawn Cole (Glenn) Brown, of Alpharetta, Ga., Mark (Ingrid) Cole, of Flemington, N.J., Jennifer Bottom Burton, of Glendale, Ariz., Brandan Jordan (Kim) Bottom, of Apoka, Fla., and Brian (Leslie) Bottom, of Louisville; and six great-grandchildren, Emily, Allison, Chris, Cole, Jordan and Griffin.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 175 E. John Rowan Blvd., with burial in Bardstown Cemetery. Dr. Rick Loader will officiate.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road.
There will be no visitation on Monday.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in memory of Ida Rose Bottom.
Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
