Jeroyd Evans Obituary

A long time resident of Kentucky, Jeroyd "Jerry" Frank Evans, 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at Signature HealthCARE of Elizabethtown. Jeroyd was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Coatopa, Ala., to Jobe and Rosa Evans. Jeroyd was raised by his aunt, Maude Davies in Des Moines, Iowa.
Jeroyd retired from the United States Army in 1973, and worked as a Regional Sales Manager for E.I. DuPont, retiring in 1995. While an avid golfer, his greatest passion was giving back to his community and service to others. He was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church in Bardstown, lifetime member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Honorary GrandMaster, Euclid Lodge No. 13, Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated, and a Kentucky Colonel. Jeroyd was a past president of the Lebanon NAACP, first African American elected to the Marion County School Board, and co-president of the Marion County Youth Center. He served as a member of the Kentucky Board of Ophthalmic Dispensers, appointed by Governor Andy Beshear, from 2021-2025.
Jeroyd is survived by his wife, Lucy Porter Evans; his daughter, Gussie Hayes (Ossie) Hendrix of Harvest, Ala.; his son, Timothy Frank (Janet Miller) Evans, of Danville, Calif.; three grandchildren, Kimberly N. (Shawn) Glanton of Fayetteville, N.C., Elizabeth Martina Evans of New York, and Erin Belita Evans of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one great-grandchild, Parker J. Glanton; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jeroyd was preceded in death by his parents, and five siblings, Fred, Magnolia, Charlie, and John C. "Ted" Evans and David Davies.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at First Baptist Church,315 N. Second St., Bardstown, KY 40004. The Rev. Michael N. Smith will officiate. Interment will be at Lebanon National Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, Bardstown, KY 40004, on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the church. A repass will be held immediately after the burial at St. Augustine Parish Center, 235 S. Spalding Ave., Lebanon, KY 40033.
In lieu of memorial donations, the family requests that donations be made to either The Lebanon Chapter 3095, of the NAACP.
