Joseph Patrick "Pat" Hite

1948 - 2024

Joseph Patrick "Pat" Hite, 76, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at his residence. He was born May 17, 1948, at a home in Bardstown to the late Robert Edward and Rose Nelson Edelen Hite. Pat attended St. Joe Prep school and received his bachelor of engineering in 1971 from the University of Louisville J. B. Speed School of Engineering. At a very young age, he began working at Rose Construction Co. Inc., alongside his father, seven brothers, and sister. He worked many years as a civil engineer building roads. Additionally, he opened Hite Ready-Mix (a concrete company) and H-Group Energy (a coal mining company) along with his siblings.
Later in life, with his children, he opened his own construction company, Hicon Construction Co., as well as a residential and commercial paving company, H-Group Contracting, LLO. Pat married Mary Keith Ritchie Hite on April 4, 1970, and had three children, Michelle Keith Hite (Joe) Isaacs, Brian Patrick (Becky) Hite, and Joseph Gregory (Lucy) Hite. Pat was a dedicated, hard worker, but enjoyed making time for his eight grandchildren, Robert Isaacs, Logan Isaacs, Ella Hite, Halle Hite, Max Hite, Willlam Hite, Hattie Hite and Hudson Hite.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rose Nelson Hite; siblings, David Hite, Edward "Eddie" Hite, Chris "Kippy" Hite and an infant, James Willett Hite.
He is survived by his wife and children as well as his five siblings; Robert "Bobby" (Nadine) Hite, John Martin Spalding "Johnny" (Jeannine) Hite; Margaret Mary Hite, Benedict "Benny" (Marigene) Hite and Thomas "Tommy" (Cathy) Hite.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral. The Rev. J. Randal Hubbard will be the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home Thursday, Sept. 5, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, until time of the service. A prayer service will be held Thursday evening at the funeral home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of
Nelson County or for Masses in Pat Hite's memory.
