A Bardstown businessman, Joseph Leo Houck, 80, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at his residence. He was born June 27, 1935, in Cox's Creek, to the late Eugene and May Devers Houck. He retired after 35 years as a Century 21 real estate agent. He served in the United States Marines on the U.S.S. Wasp and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Keene Houck, sisters, Dolores Kaninberg, Betty Jean Hicks, Theresa Nix and brothers, Pitt, Don and David Houck.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Barnes Houck, children, David Barnes of Orlando, Fla., and Anne Barnes (Jon Rosenblatt) of Chicago; two grandchildren, Henry and Adeline Rosenblatt, sisters, Marcella Yunt, Agnes Ritchie, Jane Houck, all of Louisville and Kitty Brey, of Hodgenville; a brother, Larry (Charli) Houck, of Wichita, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Lewis) Houck, of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Bill Hammer as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Gregory Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road with a prayer service at 6 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
