Alice Stuhr Obituary
Alice Marie (Baird) Stuhr
June 25, 1934 - March 10, 2025
Alice Marie (Baird) Stuhr, 90, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025.
She was born June 25, 1934, to Irvine and Olga (Arneson) Baird, at their home in North Bend, Wis. She attended Hardies Creek Grade School and graduated from Galesville High School.
She married the love of her life, Donald Stuhr, on June 28, 1952. They farmed and raised five boys together, sharing many of the farm chores. They volunteered as 4-H leaders and with 4-H softball for 10 years. Donny and Alice practiced with the 4-H team on the ballfield that they built on the corner of the farm. Alice was quite the ball player growing up, with her brother, Don, once stating, "she was always one of the first chosen and when she came up to bat, all the fielders backed up to the fence." It's fair to say the family's passion for softball was due to both Alice and Donny. It was not uncommon for them to take a spur of the moment road trip to visit family or watch the boys play ball.
Alice was incredibly humble, generous and hardworking. She was an active member of Hardies Creek Lutheran Church for over 80 years. She sang with the choir, served as a council member and taught at Sunday school and Bible camp. She was a member of the W-ELCA Ladies Group, serving in multiple leadership roles. She joined the Trempealeau County Homemakers Club in 1952 and served in many county level leadership roles, including Secretary and Vice-President. She exhibited and worked as a superintendent at the Trempealeau County Fair for many years and was recognized by the fair in 2016 for her long-time service and support.
After Donny's death in 1999, she continued to stay active in the above activities. In addition, she worked as custodian of the church. Alice was an amazing baker, especially known for her chocolate chip cookies. She worked at Sacia's Orchard making apple pies and made lefsa for Phyllis Wood along with her good friend, Norma Conrad, for years. She was always willing to help watch a grandchild/great-grandchild or help a neighbor. She quilted and loved playing cards and games with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, as well as siblings, Shirley, Merlin and Donald.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Rosemary Baird (Shirley), Janice Baird (Merlin) and Ruth Baird (Donald); her children, Bruce Stuhr (Ellen), David Stuhr (Jennifer), Larry Stuhr (Tracy), Allan Stuhr (Lori), Dan Stuhr (Steph); her grandchildren, Jessica Zeman (Tony), Zach Stuhr, Shane Stuhr (Lindsey), Lindsay Stuhr, Courtney Sye (Dan), Matt Stuhr (Jolene), Brynna Aasen (Zach), Billie Kitske (Toni), Dustin Dalton, Hannah Forte (Jamie), Gabi Stuhr, Whitney Stuhr; and nine great-grandchildren.
