Chad Anthony Larson
READSTOWN - Chad Anthony Larson, 47, of Readstown, passed away at the home he lived in his entire life on Sunday, January 9, 2022. He was born to the late Roger "Jughead" Larson and Ruby (Nelson) Larson in Viroqua, WI.
He graduated from Kickapoo High School in 1993 and received his Teaching Degree in Social Studies from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He worked for S&S Cycle in Viola, WI before starting up his own lawn care business. He operated Larson Lawn Care until the present, taking great pride in doing right by his customers.
Chad cared deeply for his hometown and was very active in the community. He was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church and served on the church council for 15 years in a variety of roles including Secretary, Deacon, and President. He was the current Readstown Village President, but the area where he probably contributed the most was with the Readstown Advancement Association. His parents were co-founders in the Advancement Association and from the very first $100 raffle Chad was involved as a child pinning numbers to the big board. As an adult, he became a member and held various officer positions over the years. Perhaps his most prominent role was running the annual Labor Day softball tournament. He spent countless hours over the years lining up teams and umpires, creating brackets, and getting the field ready for play. His dedication to this event will surely be missed.
Chad was the most kind-hearted genuine person you would ever want to meet and he could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was an avid Packer and Brewer fan, as well as an old soul with a love for nostalgia. He treasured his collections of childhood toys and kept them in mint condition. He was an artist, a master of trivia, and was very comfortable behind the karaoke microphone. He even became ordained so that he could perform the marriage ceremonies for some of his friends.
One of Chad's favorite things to do was hang out with friends, especially his best friend and honorary brother, Gabe Williams. The two of them could often be found planning a celebration, preparing for an auction, or just having fun while "running errands". Gabe's whole family was very special to Chad.
He also loved spending time with his family to whom he meant the world. He was a loving, caring son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, and cousin. He had a quick and witty sense of humor and could always be counted on to sneak in a one liner that would leave everyone laughing. He was always a hit with his nieces, nephews, and children of close friends because he was not afraid to be silly and play whatever they asked of him. One of his very best qualities was the positivity with which he lived his life. He endured many health issues from his birth, but you wouldn't hear him complain. Rather, he found the good in situations and in people. We could all learn from his example. His spunk, humor, and good-natured optimism will be sadly missed by all.
Chad is survived by his sister, Shari (Bob) Von Ruden of Westby, WI; his brother, Rick Larson of Englewood, CO; and his sister, Lisa (Bryan) Larson-Coder of Viola, WI.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Jordan (John) McGuire of Lake Geneva, WI, Keasha (Traye) Speidel of De Pere, WI, and Connor (Lucas) Von Ruden of Madison, WI, Juanita (Mike) Christenson of West Salem, WI, Luke, Carly, and Blake Larson of Englewood, CO, Regan (John) Larson of Monticello, IA and Bennett Coder of Viola, Wi; along with many extended family members and friends.
Chad was preceded in death by his father, Roger "Jughead" Larson; his mother, Ruby (Nelson) Larson; his grandparents, Carl and Lillian Larson and Ludvig and Anna Nelson, all of Readstown; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
