Eric Michael Nies, 64, passed away peacefully at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus in Rochester, Minn., after an arduous fight against multiple myeloma. Eric was born on January 19, 1961, to parents Lawrence Nies and Madonna Meister in Lancaster, Wis.

He attended Patch Grove school system before transferring to Seneca High School and graduated there in 1979. He furthered his education at the Western Technical College in La Crosse while assisting his father on the family farm and then began his career in seed sale business throughout the decades.

Eric married Shirley, the love of his life, on August 25, 2014. Together they traveled back and forth between the U.S. and China, and took numerous trips in many other places. They both enjoyed each other's cherished company and have been holding hands since the beginning till the end. Shirley has become an integral part of Eric's life journey and has brought light and hope to Eric when he was tormented by pains and sufferings. Their love and faith has become invincible in the name of Jesus Christ.

Eric was an extremely hearted man in life. He was always full of passion and enthusiasm to friends and families. His lively and cheerful personality has influenced many people. He enjoyed his work in the seed sale business and helping farmers out whenever needed. His positive attitude and upbeat mentality will be forever remembered among the friends and loving ones.

Outside of his professional career, Eric liked to take care of the yard and plant the garden with Shirley. He also enjoyed feeding the chicken and spending time outdoor with his favorite puppy dog, a red Labrador Retriever named Maobear.

Eric is survived by his wife Shirley Nies; stepson Qiqi; his mother Madonna Meister; siblings Kevin Nies, Peggy Nies Scargall, Steve Nies, and Maureen Nies Donahue. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Eric is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Nies.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 12 to 4 p.m. at the home location: N6305 County Road C, West Salem, Wisconsin 54669.
