Larry Girvin Obituary

Larry M. Girvin, 81, of Henrico, VA entered eternal life on October 3, 2025, after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Louise W. Girvin; son, Douglas Girvin (Rhonda) of Greenville, SC; son Andrew Girvin (Jerri) of Henrico; daughter Nicole Myers (Richard) of Henrico; nine grandchildren: Zachary Girvin (Mary Lib), Ashley Girvin, Mallory Girvin, Karson Girvin, Rachel Hamilton (Sterling), McKenzie Myers, Britney Myers, Drew Girvin, William Girvin; and two sisters, Sandra McCormick (Thomas) of Lancaster, PA and Barbara VanDornick (Robert) of Newark, DE.

Born on October 23, 1943, in Paradise, Pennsylvania, Larry was the son of the late Parke I. and Margaretta L. Girvin. After graduating from the Pennsylvania State University, Larry served four years in the U.S. Air Force before returning to Penn State to pursue his M.S. in nuclear engineering. Upon graduation, the family moved to Richmond, VA where he enjoyed an accomplished 30-year career with Dominion Energy from which he retired as Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations in 1999. Larry spent his retirement years fulfilling life-long dreams such as visiting every major league baseball stadium and traveling. He enjoyed serving his church and community by taking on many church leadership roles and serving on several non-profit Boards including The United Methodist Foundation, Trinity Foundation, Suhor-Graham Foundation, and Friends of Barnabas. Larry embodied a true servant heart, and his journey on earth was marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His dedication to others and desire to bring light to those in need epitomized his joyful and generous nature. One of his greatest passions was serving on the Friends of Barnabas mission team to Honduras for ten years. He shared a special bond with his PSU Acacia fraternity brothers. He also enjoyed working as a driver for the Haley Automotive Group and treasured his friendships with the other drivers.

He loved his family deeply and treasured time with them, especially holiday gatherings, annual summer vacations to Emerald Isle, NC, and special trips to Disney World, Alaska and Turks & Caicos. His light shines brightly from above with love for all he knew and treasured here on earth.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave, Richmond, VA 23229.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Barnabas, P.O. Box 4804, Midlothian, VA 23112 or Cedarfield, Angel Fund, 2300 Cedarfield Parkway, Richmond, VA 23233.

I first met Larry in 1971 while working in the fuel resources department at Virginia
Power. Larry was a very enthusiastic and positive person and a very intelligent engineer. Larry and Jim Rhodes taught me about the nuclear fuel cycle and the associated economics. It was an education that was of great value to me in my years at the company. It was rare that you did not see a smile on Larry´s face. My condolences to Louise and family and I know you will think of him often. Quinto Vallei

Larry, a great Christian friend.
He loved the Lord and was faithful with the Missionary works. We enjoyed each other as we traveled the roads taking a car and bring one back to Haley Auto Group.
To Louise and Larry's family "The Lord bless thee and keep thee, the Lord make His face to shine upon you. The Lord give you His peace forever.

Blessings
