Joan Doescher Obituary
February 20, 1932 - February 3, 2025
LA CROSSE - Joan E. Doescher, 92, passed away Monday, February 3, 2025, at Eagle Crest South, La Crosse. She was born on February 20, 1932, in Monfort, WI, the daughter of Roy Doescher and Ruth (Mueller) Doescher Preston.
She attended grade schools in both Monfort and Cobb, and was a 1950 graduate of Prairie du Sac High School.
After high school Joan worked for two years in Madison. She then attended UW-La Crosse and graduated in 1956 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. She furthered her education by obtaining a M.S. degree from Winona State College in 1968.
Joan began teaching in the La Crosse school system in 1956 and taught for 33 years until her retirement in 1989. She enjoyed her teaching years as children were always her first love. She thoroughly enjoyed her retirement, keeping busy with everyday activities, doing volunteer work, and traveling.
She was a lifetime member of NEA and WEAC. She was also a member of English Lutheran Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Wisconsin Retired Educators, and La Crosse Area Retired Educators.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruth Doescher; stepfather, Alvin Preston; and an infant sister. Also preceding her were her grandparents, William and Louise Miller and Rudolph and Eva Doescher; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by a host of treasured friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, February 14, 2025, at English Lutheran Church, 1509 King Street, La Crosse. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Montfort, WI. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to the time of the service.
The Dickinson Family Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be given to English Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
