Kevin Munk Obituary

Kevin Hurley Munk

July 25, 1952 - September 5, 2024

Kevin Hurley Munk, born July 25, 1952 to Robert and Virginia Munk in La Crosse, Wisconsin, died on September 5, 2024 in Menlo Park, California at the age of 72.

He attended St. Wenceslaus and Cathedral elementary schools, and Aquinas High School graduating in 1970. He attended University of Wisconsin at La Crosse before working in construction in both Wisconsin and Florida. He enjoyed tennis and golf and was very good at both.

In 1987 he moved to California to be close to his sisters. He worked as the Manager in Charge of the Lumber Department at Home Depot in Sunnyvale, California.

In 1998, he suffered a major stroke and stayed with family in Menlo Park. He lived there until his peaceful death from lung and liver cancer. He died at home surrounded by family.

He will always be remembered for his patience and perseverance despite the limitations of the stroke. He was a good and loyal friend and brother whose family and friends were very important to him.

He ended so many of his conversations with the phrase: "love you a lot." We wish we could hear him say it one more time!

We could not have asked for a better brother, and we miss him every day. His memory lives on in the hearts that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and Carol Munk, his sister-in-law. He is survived by his brother, Tom Munk of Onalaska, and his sisters, Sara Munk, and Mary Ellen Peloso (Dominick) both of Menlo Park, California as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12th, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, followed by burial at La Crosse Catholic Cemetery on Losey Blvd, and a reception back at the Cathedral.

I was so sad to read Kevin's (we always called him "Munk") obituary. Munk was a good friend of our group of roommates who frequented the Popcorn Tavern in the early 70s. Kevin was sweet and always smiling! How wonderful he had his loving family to care for him in California. Rest in peace, Munk; you're gone too soon. Pat Anderson Strittmater
