Linda Downs Obituary

Linda Rae Downs

November 12, 1951 - May 14, 2025

LA CROSSE - Our beloved sister, Linda Rae Downs, 73, of La Crosse, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Mulder Care Center in West Salem. Linda was born on November 12, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Richard and Qurine (Christianson) Downs. She was a proud graduate of Logan High School and later attended Western Technical College.

Linda's life was not without challenges from the day she was born. Despite her disabilities, she was an inspiration to all who knew her. From her infectious smile to her remarkable work ethics, she lived life to its fullest. Linda loved her family and her friends and you were blessed to be included in her world. She had a heart of gold and her kindness and love will be remembered forever.

Linda took great pride in her work, from Candy Maker at the Elite, to working for the YMCA Daycare and many other jobs along the way. She planned to work until she was 80. Linda loved music and her favorite was 60's and 70's rock and roll. Another passion of hers was to exercise, including walking, weight lifting, chair yoga and water aerobics.

Linda is survived by her sisters, Sandra (Dave) Feuerhelm of Hokah, Minn., Pamela (Steven) Haug of Holmen; her brother, Michael Downs of La Crosse; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard "Dick" and Qurine "Connie" Downs; her brother, Richard "Rick" Downs; nephew, Samuel Haug; and her best friend, Cathy Theige.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2025, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2135 Weston Street, La Crosse. Pastor Mark Bartusch will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mulder Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Linda. We also wish to express a heartfelt thank you to the residents at Mulder Care Center who befriended Linda and became a part of her family and ours.
