Margaret J. Peterson, age 90, passed away at home surrounded by her children on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. She was born on May 26, 1934, in Readstown, WI, the daughter of Tilman and Mayme (Drake) Mickelson. On November 11, 1953, she married Melvin Peterson.
She was employed with the Janesville School District for many years, retiring in 1992. Margaret enjoyed painting, making lefse, and spending time sitting around the campfire at the family vacation home in Westby. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by her children: Steven Peterson, Cheryl Peterson, and Elaine Peterson; grandchildren: Steve (Sarah) Peterson, Blair (Denise) Bailey, Mike Peterson, Nick (Manda) Peterson, Sam (Priscilla) Peterson, Briana (Brad Williams) Bailey, and Ruby (Zachary) Zumwalt; great-grandchildren: Maddy, Frances, Gunnar, Jaystin, Bellamy, Adalynne, Eliza, and Mari; and brothers, Alvin Mickelson and Paul (Darlene) Mickelson. She is further survived by numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael; brothers: Kenny, David, and Thomas Mickelson; and sisters: Gladys Johnson, Arlene Phalin, Louise Willger, and Helen Allen.
Services were held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Janesville and she was laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Janesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Agrace HospiceCare would be greatly appreciated by the family. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL DIRECTORS is assisting the family.
