We are sorry to hear of Mike's death. Our daughter Wendy graduated from high school with Mike & Mike & family went to our church before college. We loved the reference to Mike loving to be called Opa. My grandsons also have Dutch grandparents so they had an Opa & Oma too.

Mike is (hard to say was) my younger cousin. I remember the Sunday after church family gatherings and all us of running wild around the house. He was an instigater and prankster. Took after his dad. Yet he was the first one to admit his guilt when a parent called us out. He, Rick, and Harry were always together at the family gatherings.

We have such wonderful memories of Mike. He always, always had a smile. I remember working concessions at the Shelby ballfields with him. So many summer ballgames. Many memories of church and our children growing up together. He was a true asset to this earth and will be deeply missed.

Jill, what a beautifully written testimony to Mike's life as a loving husband, father and friend. To make the kind of impact on people's lives that it is hard to put into words all the wonderfulness we are- we should all be so lucky! He's one of the good ones! Hoping you and your family hear many wonderful stories of his friendship in the coming weeks to shore you up as you navigate through this tough journey. Wishing you rest, peace and to be surrounded with support and love in the coming days.

Jill, Alex, and Jada,
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mike. I was fortunate enough to be welcomed into your home during my college years to help watch Alex and Jada. You were a second family to me during my time in La Crosse. The love that Mike had for his family was so apparent, as was his commitment to his career in law enforcement. I know we haven’t kept in touch but given the impact your family had on my life, I wanted to send my deepest condolences for your incredibly heartbreaking loss. Thinking of you and praying for you during this difficult time.

I am so sad to read of Mike's passing. I was Mike's 7th grade English teacher many many years ago in Wisconsin Rapids. You could easily tell then what a kind and hard-working guy he was. He did not like English studies but he worked hard. Later I taught 11th grade English and had Mike again in class. He said, "Hello Mrs. Gilbert." And he worked hard again in a subject he didn't prefer. Imagine my surprise years later when I became a librarian in La Crosse and looked at a handsome man one day across the front desk and said, 'Are you Mike Blokhuis from Wisconsin Rapids?" And he was so very very proud to tell me he was a police officer.
I send my most sincere sympathies to all of Mike's family and friends.

Although I met Mike several times, I knew him mostly through his wife and kids, who are shining examples of all that is good in the world, which is a reflection of the type of person Mike was and his values. He was taken much too soon. Jill, Alex & Jada - I am so sorry for this huge loss in your lives. It breaks my heart that you have to go through this. May God keep you in the palm of His hand and bring peace and comfort to your hearts.

I hardly know where to start. Mike was a great family man, a great coworker and someone all of us will remember for his empathy, integrity and leadership. He always lit up when talking about his family and it was very apparent how much he loved them.
We all experience a few people in our lives that have an impact on us that will last a lifetime. Mike was one of those individuals. He lived life to the fullest and poured his heart and soul into everything he did whether at work or at play always enjoying time with family and friends.
Jill, Alex and Jada you have our deepest condolences, and you will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I thank God He opened the door for Mike & I to meet in the recent years. What a wonderful person to be around even before our High Scool years. He was a very positive influence in my life. May his wife & family experience God's comfort during this difficult time. If Mike was here today, I would look him in the eyes and say, thank you!

Our hearts r truely broken. I worked with Mike many times when he needed to bring someone arrested into the er, for treatment. He was so gracious and kind.
His dedication to Three Rivers Martial Arts was unparalleled. There r so many people who cared and loved Mike. An unforgettable soul forever, I’m sure glad I had the chance to cross paths with such an incredible dedicated lovely family man. Jesus had got another angel in heaven. Until we meet again.,,,,

My deepest sympathy to Jill, Alex and Jada. This must be very hard for you. Know that his face lit up whenever he spoke of you. Mike is one of the best men I ever knew. He was the epitome of what an honorable police officer should be and inspired everyone he met to be a better person. He was strong in his faith in God and loyal as a friend could be. He will be greatly missed by many, but those of us who knew him are better for knowing him. May God give his soul wings for he earned them.

I could not be more heartbroken to hear this news. My name is Amy (Joosten) DeBoer and I was a cheerleader at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. Mike was my double stunts partner and I was no easy lift. They paired some of the football players with the cheerleaders for some crazy tricks during halftime at basketball season. Mike was one of the sweetest and most gentlemanly guys I’ve ever known, and I have no doubt he went on to make an incredible husband and father. My high school sweetheart, Shawn, and I could not be more sorry for your loss. Please keep Mike in your hearts and your spirit. ❤

Mike was my cousin, childhood friend, and a all around good guy. I remember Mike as one who was always the best at everything, especially sports. When I would visit the family in Wisconsin Rapids he seemed to be the center of attention with many friends and neighbors. I will always cherish my youth with Mike and look forward to the day when he can show me the layout of Heaven as I know he will be part of the welcoming crew! To Mike’s family, you are in my thoughts and prayers as Mike was a presence to be around, he will be missed!
