Robert Treu Obituary

Robert "Bob" Treu

December 23, 1940 - September 26, 2025

Writer, Teacher, Storyteller and Friend. Just before dawn on September 26, Bob Treu passed away peacefully at Riverside Transitional Care. In addition to being an English professor at UWL for 37 years, Bob was an active member of the community, a wonderful friend to many, and a devoted grandfather. Bob, your spirit will remain strongly held in the driftless heart of La Crosse, where you will be forever missed.

A public Celebration of Life and poetry reading will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Nature Place, 789 Myrick Dr. More details at CouleeCremation.com.

Yesterday

Dr. Treu was one of my favorite English professors at UWL and I took as many of his classes as possible. I enjoyed his laid-back style and great sense of humor. His honesty, whether offering a compliment or critique, was always appreciated and made me a better writer. Sometimes we would shoot a game of pool and enjoy a couple beers. I will miss that! Thank you, Bob, for making a difference in my life. My deepest condolences go out to the entire Treu family.

A fantastic English professor. His classes made English enjoyable. It has helped me in life. Sorry to hear that he passed away..
