Austin Thornton Obituary

AUSTIN THORNTON

Age 94. Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012.

He was born October 5, 1917 in Bucyrus, Ohio and married Marion Betty Kaplan in Detroit, Michigan on February 26, 1938. They were married for 74 years. Austin worked as a purchasing agent most of his working career, but what he really loved was volunteering his time at Olive View Medical Center and Holy Cross Hospital. He and Marion were founding members of the Mended Hearts Organization at Holy Cross. Austin was also a 26 year member of the Elks Lodge #1539 in San Fernando.

He truly loved his family and is survived by his wife, Marion; daughter, Linda (Russ) Hamilton; son, Scott (Julie) Thornton; grandchildren, Bret Hamilton, Brooke (Mike) Hogan, Christina Thornton and Jennifer Thornton; and great grandsons, Troy Hamilton and Albert Aquirre.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Oakridge Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 15455 Glenoaks Blvd., Sylmar, on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make a donation in the memory of Austin Thornton to: Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Foundation, 15031 Rinaldi St., Mission Hills, CA 91346.
