Carol Nolte Obituary

CAROL A. NOLTE Retired Pastor of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church and former teacher at Byrd Middle School, Granada Hills High School and a missionary school in New Guinea. Carol loved to preach the gospel and her ministry extended beyond the walls of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. She served on the board of publications for Augsburg Publishing House, was a member of the multi-synodical candidacy committee and ecumenical officer for t he Southwest CA Synod. She mentored theological students and was appointed Lutheran Chair of the LARCO dialogue. Survived by her mother, Elizabeth; brothers, Glenn (Merry), and Richard (Phyllis); nieces, Laurie and Carolynn; nephews, Larry, Chris, Matt and Mark; great nieces, Amber, Colleen and Heather; and great nephew, Justin. Carol had a love of classical music, fishing, gardening and crafting. She was a terrific pie maker. Carol traveled extensively and enjoyed backpacking and hiking especiall y at Mammoth and Holden Village. She passed away on February 21, 2006 at home in the presence of family and friends, after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Services will be held at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 11555 National Blvd., Los Angeles, Sunday, February 26, 2006, 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carol A. Nolte endowed scholarship at Augustana College, 639 38th St., Rock Island, IL.

I had the pleasure of teaching with Carol at Byrd JHS from 1960-1967. She was an outstanding teacher and individual.My sincerest sympathy to the Nolte family.
