David's service is complete and all went well. My Dad's Brother, my Uncle Billy was there, Linda's Mom and Dad, Mike Pelley ( we boy's grew up with the Pelley family), Debbie (Linda's sister in law), Brother Bob, Linda's Aunt Pam and Uncle Don and of course Linda, Emily, Carlie and Myself.
The Honor Guard Service was just as I had imagined even better, the Dignity and Passion of the moment was truly beautiful. I built David's Urn at my work and that was placed in the center of the Table, his Navy picture and Discharge Certificate were framed and placed on each side. David always wanted to place Pink Carnations on Mom and Dad's Grave so this Day the Three of them would share the same bouquet. On this Beautiful Sunny day the Honor Guard marched David's Urn to the table all the while Taps being played, they would speak of Goodness and Honor, Fold and present the American Flag, Final rifle shots were fired and the shell casing were presented to Bobby and Myself.
Emily and Carlie just seemed to take the lead when they felt they needed too. There was no practice or instructions given they just knew. Boy are they special.
I had a sense of all family and Friends with me and that added strength helped with the reading of these words.

David’s Last Story
This service is for Airman Apprentice David Lee Bailes, United States Navy.
Today Monday this 19th day of November, 2007 we are gathered here at this most beautiful place, Riverside National Cemetery. With Devine guidance, the Honor Guard and your help “David” our Brother, Uncle and Friend will be laid to rest.
David was born February 21st, 1956 in Torrance, California and assured the number two spot of the three Bailes boys. Bob was the oldest by 11 months and Doug coming two years later.
David enjoyed a rich childhood of competition and love for his two brothers, Mom’s home cooking the best in the state of California, summer vacations that would rival a National Geographic Special and year after year he played Summer Baseball having Dad as his Coach and Brother Bob as his No.1 – 18 Strike out per game Pitcher. Yes, David had a Blessed Childhood.
He would Excel and Achieve high Academic Honors thru-out his school age years, after completing two years of College David would enter the United States Navy.
David’s war was not fought on the Military Battlefield; his was a constant struggle of survival between normal thought process and the bizarre forces of Schizophrenia. Visual elusions and unheard voices would be David’s enemy. For twenty nine years more that half his life, David would be engaged in this struggle for survival.
Though he endured much, David maintained his sense of Humor and could always make you laugh. Yes, his smile was so Special.
David’s tour of duty is over, his mission is accomplished. Now with God’s help David will be set free and be reunited with Mom and Dad.
I will close with PSALM 23
A PSALM for David.
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
