Mary Keach Obituary

MARY CAIN PECKHAM KEACH Mary Cain Peckham Keach, 89, mother of actor/producer Stacy Keach and actor/director/producer James Keach and widow of radio pioneer and actor/producer/director Stacy Keach Sr., passed away at 6PM November 5th at the Sherman Oaks Hospital, of cardiac arrest, with her sons by her side. She was prominently involved in Southern California charities. Born in Denton, Texas on July 31, 1914, Mary was the youngest daughter of Texas oil millionaire William H. Peckham, a hunting companion of Theodore Roosevelt, and Artie Pat Cain, a beautiful southern belle from Mississippi. Mary attended school at Ward Belmont in Nashville, Tennessee for two years, then matriculated to Northwestern University, where she received a Masters Degree in Drama and Speech, and where she met her future husband, Stacy Keach, Sr. at a tryout for a school play. In 1935, they traveled to Europe together on a t heatre scholarship, fell in love, and were married in June of 1936. Mary taught English in Savannah, Georgia prior to the birth of their first child, Stacy Jr. Mary and Stacy Sr. were married for 67 years, and bore two sons, Stacy Jr. and James. Mary's husband, Stacy Sr., passed away in February of this year, but she is survived by her sister, Grace, and by her sons and their families, Malgosia Keach, wife of Stacy, Jane Seymour, wife of James, and 8 grandchildren, Shannon, Karolina, Kalen, John, Kris, Katie, Sean, and Jenni. Funeral services will be held at Forest Lawn, Church of the Hills, Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at 2:30 PM.
